Celebrate Diversity at SpringOUT Canberra’s Premier Pride Festival

SpringOUT is Canberra’s only pride festival. Held in November each year, it is a month-long pride festival that celebrates Australia’s most LGBTQIA+ friendly city and its LGBTQIA+ community in all its fabulous diversity.

ABOUT US

Support & Love

Canberra SpringOUT Association Inc. (referred to as SpringOUT) is the not-for-profit member-based charity organisation that facilitates and promotes a series of events under the umbrella of Canberra SpringOUT Pride Festival in November each year. We also produce other events throughout the year depending on demand.

SpringOUT exists primarily to develop the Canberra Pride Festival for the benefit of Canberra’s LGBTIQA+ community, the enjoyment of a wider audience and as part of a global celebration of diversity, acceptance and LGBTIQA+ rights. We aim to raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual and intersex communities.
How we do this?
Providing the opportunity for LGBTIQA+ individuals and groups to use SpringOUT as a statement of pride and to promote a broader message of diversity and acceptance.
Anchoring the Canberra SpringOUT Pride Festival in a broader program of cultural and social activities for the enjoyment of local audiences and to attract visitors to Canberra.
Providing resources and opportunities to our community for creative expression.
Embracing individuals and groups from the broader community who share our vision.
Constantly improving the creative input and production values of our events, including bringing well-known artists, thinkers and entertainers to Canberra.
Our history

The SpringOUT Pride Festival has been a project of the unincorporated not-for-profit organisation, Canberra Pride, since 1999. To better manage the financial affairs and better promote Canberra as a preferred tourist destination, Canberra Pride’s name was changed in 2015 and Canberra SpringOUT Association Inc was formed.

Canberra SpringOUT Association Inc now operates as a fully incorporated not for profit charitable association leading, promoting and assisting community organisations, individuals and businesses that wish to participate.

Over the past 25 years SpringOUT has secured itself in the hearts and minds of the Canberra community by growing from a handful of events to a much-loved month-long festival. Canberra SpringOUT Association relies on sponsorship, memberships, grants, donations and in-kind support from community stakeholders and volunteers to achieve its goals.

We serve the LGBTQIA+ community by affirming the pride, joy, dignity and identity of our communities and its people through events of celebration. The Association seeks to enable LGBTQIA+ individuals and groups to discover, express and develop their artistic, cultural skills and potential.

Providing a vehicle for individuals and groups to express, affirm and celebrate their cultural and sexual diversity to highlight the contribution they make to the core fabric of Canberra.
Promoting a broader message of diversity, equality and acceptance.

Integrating the SpringOUT festival into the wider cultural and social profile for residents of the Canberra region, as well as the broader tourism market.

Reaffirming a sense of community for individuals and groups who may otherwise be marginalised; and in providing educational, cultural and creative spaces that encourage free expression.

My name is Bob Lees, I was raised and educated in Canberra and have been involved in community sport for many years. I have previously played gay and inclusive rugby with the Sydney Convicts and currently play over 35’s rugby with the ACT Veterans rugby club (The Vets). The vets have raised well over $750,000.00 for local charities in the past 30 years.

I am passionate about LGBTQIA+ visibility and inclusion, breaking down stereotypes through sport, promoting diversity in rugby – age, gender and sexuality and striving to amplify a clear message of inclusion and support for the LGBTQIA+ community in the Canberra and Queanbeyan region. Sport is for everyone.

I am a young queer disabled person of colour and I am enthusiastic about bringing my perspective to SpringOut to make queer events for friendly for people in my communities. As an artist, musician and drag artist that has participated in SpringOut events previously, I have confidence that this experience will aid me in delivering programs smoothly with SpringOut for both the artists we work with and the people that come to celebrate queerness with us.
